Yoga

Instructor: Allison Sullivan

This integrative, all-levels yoga class brings together movement, strength, stretching, breath, and stillness in one balanced practice. Classes may move from an energizing flow into strength-building poses, slow down for deeper restorative stretching, and make space for breathwork, meditation, and rest.

Rather than focusing on one particular style of yoga, each class draws from several approaches, offering a little bit of everything: enough movement to feel strong, enough stillness to settle, and plenty of room to listen to what your body needs that day.

No particular level of flexibility, fitness, or yoga experience is required. Come as you are.

Christine (Chris) Bergeron Ballew is the owner of Brazos Emerge and has been teaching movement, Pilates, and meditation for over 35 years. She believes that movement classes should be accessible to all and that as Joseph H. Pilates stated, "Change happens through movement and movement heals."

Chris injured her back in 1992 and was told by doctors and physical therapists that if she kept dancing she would become immobile and end up in a wheel chair. Through dance science alignment principles and Pilates, Chris healed and went onto to have a dance career until she retired from dancing professionally in 2010. Chris believes that movement does not lie and that it is telling us something if we are just quiet enough to listen.

Her teaching style is welcoming, accessible, and intuitive based on years of Pilates and dance science training. Chris teaching individual and small group Pilates  classes  and also is invited to teach master classes in dance science at schools and conferences.  Come join Chris for Meditation and Movement and Fall Prevention for Seniors.

Allison Sullivan has been teaching yoga since earning her certification in 2012. A trauma-informed instructor, she approaches yoga less as a pursuit of perfect poses and more as an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with the body, and practice being present in it.

While she loves the strength, movement, and energy of a good fitness-based class, Allison is especially drawn to the therapeutic side of yoga—the ways breath, intentional movement, stillness, and nervous-system regulation can help people feel more grounded and at home in their own bodies.

Her teaching style is warm, accessible, and decidedly human and grounded. She believes yoga can be meaningful without being intimidating and restorative without taking itself too seriously. Allison teaches group and individual sessions and is frequently invited to lead yoga, meditation, and restorative practices at retreats, conferences, and special events.
